Why Squash Works for Everyone
New to Squash or Squash 57?
Here’s What You Need to Know
Squash is one of the fastest, most demanding, and most rewarding racket sports in the world. Played
on an enclosed indoor court with a hollow rubber ball, it rewards quick thinking, controlled aggression, and relentless movement. Forbes magazine has rated squash the world’s number one healthiest sport, and once you’ve played your first match, you will understand why.

Racketball is played on the same court with a slightly larger racket and a bouncier ball, making it more accessible for beginners and those returning to court sport after a break. Both sports are available at Edgbaston Priory, and many members play both.
Why Pickleball
Works for Everyone
- One of the most effective full-body workouts: squash burns up to 600 calories per hour, improving cardiovascular fitness, strength, and agility simultaneously
- Fast-paced and tactical: every rally demands quick decisions and precise shot selection, making it as mentally stimulating as it is physical
- Suitable for all ages and abilities: we have members playing competitively from age 10 to 80
- All-weather, year-round: ten indoor courts mean your session never gets cancelled
- Squash 57 is the perfect entry point: Squash 57 (or racketball) offers more reaction time and an easier learning curve, with a natural step up to squash when you are ready
- No equipment needed to start: rackets and balls available to hire from the Welcome Desk

Training that gets results
I joined the Club to explore squash, swimming and gym sessions to get fitter. Israar helped me build confidence with free weights, always working at my pace. In 4 months, we’ve achieved amazing results and I’ve lost 6kg.

Simply exceptional
My parents met in the Priory bar in 1958 and our family has been members since 1875, now into the sixth generation. We benefit from the foresight of those who shaped the club over 150 years, making it an oasis in Edgbaston. No other city in Britain matches what we have here.
