Yulia Putintseva captured the third Hologic WTA Tour singles title of her career on Sunday in Birmingham with a 6-1, 7-6(8) win over Ajla Tomljanovic in the final of the Rothesay Classic.

“I don’t know what I’m feeling because I wasn’t expecting this at all,” Putintseva said afterward. “It’s great and it’s confusing because I’ve always been good on clay, but now all of a sudden, I’m good on grass. I’ll take that! It’s great!”

“It was a great game. I started so well, and then Ajla dialled up her level to the highest. She was playing really amazing, not giving me any time to think or to do something. The game was even in the end, and I was a bit more lucky.”

Elise Mertens & Su-Wei Hsieh beat  M. Kato and S.Zhang 6-1 6-3. Amazing to have the number one and two in the world showcase their level. They are the best in the world for a reason and they hit every spot on the court.

A great way to close out finals day.  It’s always fun to follow all the players from this event and see how they get on, especially at Wimbledon. For the juniors, we hope you have been inspired and have new role models.

We’ve had another fantastic week, it’s so exciting to be on the world stage for a week and show everyone how amazing our courts and club is. Thanks to all the teams for all their hard work, and especially the grounds team.
