We had some great battles on court today for the start of second round matches and the sun came out too!

Aussie, Ajla Tomljanovic, stayed calm and composed throughout her match and found the confidence to close. Her aggressive ground strokes and movement was very effective.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto continued her good form and had a convincing win over Sloane Stephens. She is becoming very dangerous this week and has now beaten two Grand Slam Champions.

Our third match of the day was the thriller as predicted. Leylah Fernandez battled through and found enough consistent tennis to win 6.3 in the third set. She adjusted well to all of the variety that was thrown at her by Viktorija Golubic.

Our last match on Centre Court showed our seventh seed Potapova v Bronzetti. Potapova dominated the game early on with her aggressive strokes and came out victorious.

Doubles..
Heather Watson and Greet Minnen had a big win today over current US Open champions and second seeds Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski.

Looking ahead….

We have another action-packed day tomorrow! Opening our Ann Jones Centre Court is Anhelina Kalinina and Yulia Putintseva. Putintseva has a lot of variation in her game. She is powerful and mixes it up. Kalinina is more of a natural clay court player and is solid from the back. These games styles will be fun to watch.

Next up we have Diana Shnaider v Marie Bouzkova. Bouzkova has enjoyed a lot of doubles success recently and is confident moving forwards. If Shnaider plays smart, she has the game to beat her!

Let’s fill the stand and make some noise for Harriet Dart and last year’s finalist Barbora Krejcikova. Both have great game styles on the grass and enjoy being aggressive and moving forwards. Dart needs to mix up the pace so Krejcikova doesn’t get any rhythm.

Our last match on Centre Court is Elise Mertens v Caroline Dolehide. Mertens played very solid in her first match, and was aggressive and defended well too. Dolehide likes to take the first ball early and dominate the point. Mertens makes a lot of balls and covers the court well so Dolehide needs to hit her spots early.

On Court One Heather Watson and Greet Minnen are back in action in the doubles playing Shuai Zhang and Miyu Kato. Followed by Yulia Putintseva and Anastasia Potapova playing Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo – this will be a good match to watch!
