Day one of the women’s main draw has kicked off with a bang, and it’s day two of qualifying for the men – what a day it’s been! The sun’s been shining, the energy has been great and the courts have served up some absolutely thrilling tennis.
It’s been a great start to the tournament!
CHAIR’S CHOICE
Your votes are in and our Chair’s Choice winner for Monday is Jane Mills!
Jane was nominated by her fellow members due to her being an “excellent tennis player and – more importantly – a generous and welcoming member of the Social Tennis community. She plays with everyone, is encouraging and spirited, and is always friendly and welcoming regardless of someone’s level! She has modelled how to enact the spirits of welcome, generosity, and passion that are core to our Club’s mission and identity.”
Well done Jane!
FUN IN THE ACTIVATION ZONE
We’ve had a great day in our Activation Zone! With swing ball, mini tennis, corn hole and lots of games, there’s plenty to get involved with. Juniors are able to meet exciting players, ask them lots of questions, get autographs and even play some games with them. Make sure you pop down to our Activation Zone and have a go!
LEYLA’S LOWDOWN & LOOK AHEAD
British Wild Cards defeat seeds in opening rounds! Mimi stunned World No. 52 and top seed Alycia Parks in straight sets, this has been the best result of her career to date. Heather came out confident and strong on the grass beating 8th seed Olivia Gadecki in straight sets too.
There has been lots of matches around the grounds with six match courts in action today, creating a fantastic atmosphere across the whole club!
Today we have…
Our Dan Evans will be returning to our grass courts competing against Murphy Cassone. Also battling it out on our Ann Jones Centre Court will be British player Jodie Burrage against Jana Fett.
Court 1 is a full and has an exciting line-up with top seed Bellucci, followed by French player Mannarino and 4th seed Vukic.
Make sure you keep your eyes on an up and coming rising star, Alexandra Eala. She is only 20 years old with a current ranking of 73 but has already beaten multiple Grand Slam champions this year – she is definitely one to watch!
